NATO promised that it would respond in a “united and determined” way to any deliberate attack on its critical infrastructure.
The North Atlantic Council, NATO’s highest decision-making body, expressed “concern” over the damage to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines running under the Baltic Sea.

NATO is committed to deterring and defending itself against using energy as a weapon and any other hybrid tactic employed by state and non-state actors.
In addition, NATO stated that it is most likely that the critical damage to the Nordstream 1 and Nordstream 2 pipelines was done deliberately and recklessly, and that those responsible can expect to be held accountable in the near future.
